The most important Gran Turismo car championship at the national level joins the weekend of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE LA CIUDAD DE MEXICO 2022 Presented by Heineken.
This event joins the W Series and Freightliner Legends Cup as the races confirmed for the weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The Gran Turismo México (GTM) category of the Super Cup is added as a support event to the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF MEXICO CITY 2022 Presented by Heineken, confirmed from October 28 to 30, at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.
The GTM cars have 500 horsepower engines, tubular chassis, 6-speed sequential transmission and reach speeds close to 250 KM/H at the end of the main straight of Hermanos Rodríguez.
“We are very happy to once again have the participation of one of the best national motorsports championships. The GTM category will undoubtedly be a great addition to the activities of the Mexico GP. We are extremely grateful for the support provided by Super Copa to make this possible for the fans,” said Federico González Compeán, General Director of the 2022 FORMULA 1 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX Presented by Heineken.
For his part, Michel Jourdain Sr., President of the Super Cup, stated: “It is always an honor to be part of the Mexican Grand Prix. We are sure that fans will be left wanting to see more of the GTM racing action because of the excitement that comes from watching them compete.”
The Gran Turismo México Super Cup race is contemplated with a qualifying practice and two competitions during the 2022 México GP weekend. For their part, the GTM cars will also be used by the legendary drivers who will participate in the long-awaited Freightliner Legends Cup .
The Freightliner Legends Cup is a race that is not scored and is not part of the Super Cup championship. However, it will be an event that seeks to position the category and Mexican motorsports internationally.
This race will feature the participation of various legends who participated in the Champ Car World Series. So far, the confirmed drivers are: Paul Tracy, Max Papis, Oriol Servià, Michel Jourdain Jr. and Mario Domínguez. In the following weeks we will be confirming the next round of legends that will participate in the race.
The GTM and the Freightliner Legends Cup, both with Super Cup cars, join the W Series as the three confirmed support races for F1ESTA 2022 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
